What do you do when no one asks you to join their super hot Samba dance company..and you really, really wish they would? But they don’t, so…
You get your best dancing friends together and you start your own super HOT samba dance company!
Oh yah!
Well, I had been taking Samba Dance class for three nights a week for several years. And like I said, I got into the whole thing because I just LOVED the costumes, and the beauty and confidence of my friends when they wore their feathers and sequin bikinis and performed dance!
One of my dance teachers invited me to several gigs with her hot dance company. I borrowed costumes, then made my own, and danced with them at some fun events and a 2 hour Brazilian showcase big stage dance show as one of the core dancers…
But still no invitation to become a professional member.
So I did what any girl with a deep love of feathers and sequins and a burning desire to express her creativity would do–I got my best dancing friends together and we started our own super HOT samba dance company!
Hipnautica was born in Rebecca Picker’s and Cindy Clark’s living room. Kara Snider was the fire dance leader in our community, so of course, she was IN! And my friend Kristin Allen just happened to be stopping by, and she stayed and joined our troop!
What a magical night of big paper and colored marker brainstorming…we dreamed up all of the dance pieces and costumes we wanted to create.
And we visioned how we would weave traditional spiritual and booty-shaking Samba Dance styles with our love of Circus Arts and Theater!
Hip, hip, hip, hip, Hipnautica!
Here is a really fun video of one of our performances of the dance style, Milandro! This dance style is from Rio, and it’s a 50′s glam gangster style of dance. It’s usually danced by men, or women imitating men’s more boxy style of dancing Samba…
And we also created many Samba Circus fusion shows. We loved to create 10 minute stage shows for giant electronic music parties. Here we are dancing for 2,000 people at Raindance’s Chinese New Year. It’s the year of the Dragon and this is a fierce Samba Reggae dance choreography…
So here’s to the love of shaking it, and the power of friends, and to the music and dance of Brazil.
